In a glade surrounded by coniferous forests, at the foot of the Postăvaru Massif (Southern Carpathians), it unwinds the Romanian little paradis: Poiana (Glade) Braşov, or the Sun Glade, as the inhabitants call it. At an elevation of 1030 m, this offers a tonic-stimulant mountain climate, with annual average temperatures of about 5ºC (July average 14,5ºC, and January average -5ºC), which makes it not only a holliday destination, but also an important all-season health resort. The clean, ozone-rich air, free of dust and allergens, the relatively low atmospheric pressure, as well as the marked ionization are among the most important natural cure factors in the treatment of asthenic neurosis, weakly conditions, physical and intellectual overexertion, secondary anemias, endocrine diseases and especially respiratory diseases.
Internationally renowned and highly appreciated, Poiana Braşov resort offers to all tourists and sport lovers 12 ski runs of all difficulty degrees (olympic run, downhill and giant slalom runs, special slalom run, jumps etc.), sports grounds (for tennis, minigolf, handball, basketball) and a litlle lake. It also boasts closed gondola , rope chairs, skilift, indoor pools, saunas, medical gyms, discos, bars and restaurants etc. During the year the snow blanket lasts for about 120 days, which is the main attraction of an important number of tourists.
Poiana Braşov is also the beginning of various mountain hikes or walks. Thus there are opportunities to reach the cabins of Postăvaru (1602 m) and Cristianu Mare (1704 m), as well as the peasant citadel of Rîşnov (14th-17th century), 14 km away. There may be organized visits to the historical and art monuments in the Braşov municipality (the towers and bastions of the old 15th century fortifications, the St. Bartholomeu Church, built in the early Gothic, dating back to the 13th century, the Black Church, also Gothic, built over 1385-1476, today harbouring an important collection of oriental rugs, the Council House, today a museum, the first Romanian School and many other churches).
